Top 10 Music Festivals of 2014
Governors Ball
June 6th – 8th
At its worst, 2013’s Governors Ball was a muddy rained out mess. At its best, this distinctly east coast fest was one of the most well rounded music events of the year in the best city in the world. Governors Ball’s consistency has earned it the reputation as the quintessential New York City music festival.
Encompassing some of the very best the city has to offer, the festival carries that unique brand of NY cool and influence without any of that perceived arrogance. You’d be hard pressed to find differences among the crowd compared to west coast fests like Coachella. And while the weather created some truly uncomfortable conditions, there were virtually no hangups in the wake of killer performances from Kanye West, Bloc Party, Dillon Francis and dozens more.
2014 delivers some of the biggest billings among the festival circuit, including OutKast, The Strokes, Phoenix, Skrillex, Jack White, and NY’s own Vampire Weekend. Tickets for Governors Ball are currently on sale, more than reasonably priced as far as New York City events are concerned. If you’re anywhere on the east coast, as any former attendees will report, it’s worth the risk of uncooperative weather.
