10 Best US Music Festivals of 2013: #2 BonnarooMid June

The weird weekend on the farm known as Bonnaroo finds itself in our #2 spot, perhaps to the surprise of some people. There’s been countless comparisons to festivals such as Coachella, but, as Rolling Stone has written, “Bonnaroo is snob free”. The festival lacks much of the commercial drag turning people away from major fests like our dear friend Coachella. To put it in harsher terms, Bonnaroo still has every bit of its soul.

This music fest is held annually on a 700-acre farm in Tennessee and has grown tremendously since its inception. Originally only catering to the jam band varities, Bonnaroo has taken the best bits of similar festivals and expanded into genres such as indie rock, hip hop and EDM.

What makes Bonnaroo so special is the sheer amount of things there are to do here — calling it a music festival barely scratches the surface. Check out the cinema tent, food and drink villages, massive 30-ft waterslide or take in a comedy show. Bonnaroo was perhaps the greatest influence on other festivals reinventing the festival experience, allowing fans to experience the best of everything.
