Review: The Decemberists Latest Album Falls Flat

I admit that I have never really been a big fan of The Decemberists. They play at a lot of festivals that I attend and I would catch a couple of their songs live and they would put on a pretty good show, but I just have never really been into their music.

I thought I would listen to their latest album, Florasongs just to see if I would like it. Well, I didn’t. The album sounds like it is full of just noise. It is a mix of folk and country, but done poorly.

Of course it is really no surprise because this album is full of leftover songs from their Terrible World album, which was, well terrible. I think a lot of fans are going to be very disappointed with the Florasongs EP. It does sound like the band is trying to go for a subtle 80s college rock sound, but doesn’t succeed.

Band

The indie folk rock band hails from Portland, Oregon and has been in the music scene since 2001. The band includes Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Nate Query, Jenny Conlee and John Moen.

Luckily, the album is only 19 minutes long and contains 5 songs, so it isn’t like they wasted a lot of time on this album. So in small doses, it might not be as big of a failure as I predict.
