The Hollywood Bowl sits right in front of the Hollywood sign and has been one of the most popular music venues since the 1920s. Since the opening, some of the biggest names in music have performed there.
The Hollywood Bowl opened in 1922. The reason it is called the Hollywood Bowl is because of the location of the amphitheater. It is carved inside of a bowl shaped hillside in Hollywood. It is home to the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and is owned by the Country of Los Angeles.
The Beatles played there in 1964 and 1965. Other top artists who have performed at the Hollywood Bowl include Billie Holiday, Elton John, Carried Underwood, Billy Joel, Linkin Park, Avicci and plenty more. Cher performed her final two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. In 2014, Black Sabbath put on quite the show in front of 18,000 people.
All different kinds of music have been performed there. Country, EDM, Pop, Classical, pretty much every genre of music you can think of. The Hollywood Bowl was renovated in 2004 and has housed as many as over 36,000 people.
The Hollywood Bowl has also been mentioned in many films and television shows. The venue was featured in Beaches, Escape from LA and even Shrek 2. The Hollywood Bowl has also been mentioned in shows like 90210, Beverly Hillbillies and The Simpsons.
The Hollywood Bowl also has a pretty neat museum. The museum is filled with photos, audio and video recordings and artifacts from performances. They even have a Hall of Fame. Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Reba McIntyre, Frank Sinatra and more are all part of the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.
Every Fourth of July, the Hollywood Bowl puts on a spectacular fireworks shows. This year, Smokey Robinson will be hosting. The venue hosts some pretty cool events and it is a really great place to go to escape from the city and have some fun listening to music and mingling in the Hollywood hills.
