Virtually no public performances have taken place since Daft Punk released Random Access Memories, and it appears only the allure of the Grammy Awards will bring the robots back to the stage. The Grammy Awards are set to air on January 26th at 8 pm ET on CBS. We can’t wait for this one.
We still speculate the robots will not be listed anywhere on the Coachella lineup. According to insiders close to the performance, Daft Punk finally caved to the live performance after months of negotiation. The French artists previously played the Grammy Awards in 2008 with Kanye West, citing the positive experience as a reason for their willingness to return. Other artists including Kendrick Lamar have already agreed to perform at the award show in 2014.
While this is certainly amazing news, it could potentially prove disastrous for any fans of Daft Punk attending Coachella in 2014 as the rumor mill is about be set ablaze. Anyone familiar with Coachella’s history understands Daft Punk is often uttered in the same breath as the festival just prior to the official lineup release early in the year.
It’s also worth mentioning that the duo is nominated for a total of four awards this year including Album of the Year.
