Adams Covers Swift’s 1989

One of the most anticipated albums of the year is finally here. Ryan Adams covered Taylor Swift’s hit album 1989 and added his own style to it. The album is already a huge success on iTunes and critics are raving and calling it a magical and epic album.

Last Christmas, Adams decided to start coving Swift’s album from start to finish and he worked day and night to make it happen. He paired up with upcoming musicians guitarist Tod Wisenbaker and drummer Nate Lotz and the rest is history. The trio spent long nights recording every song from Swift’s 1989. Through the process, Adams would post teasers of his work on Twitter and Instagram.

Throughout Adam’s cover album he uses acoustic ballads for songs like Blank Space and How You Get the Girl. He then changes it up for more of a country rock for songs Wildest Dreams and I Know Places. He also adds his own 80s spin to songs Shake It Off and Style.

Adams has said that his ultimate goal was to try to have a mix of Bruce Springsteen’s 1978 album Darkness at the Edge of Town and the 1985 album from the Smiths’ titled Meat is Murder. I think Adams nailed it and did a great job adding a new twist on these already terrific songs. I really hear a lot of Bruce Springsteen in this album and I love it.

There actually have been some reviews that rate Adams’ version of 1989 better than Swift’s version. I am not sure about that, but it was nice to see Swift get excited about this album. She posted a bunch of stuff on social media giving her blessing. Can’t wait to hear what she thinks!
