The 5 Most Badass Anti-Valentine’s Day Songs

You know what I love–not being in a relationship on Valentine’s Day aka Singles Awareness Day. I’ve grown so much more as a person by cutting out all the toxic people in my life, traveling, and not caring about what other people think. I’m also just glad that I don’t have to buy a bunch of crap from Target to please my significant other or go to crowded dinners, or snuggle on the couch — errrgh singledom has its ups and downs.

1. Rolling in the Deep / Adele

These days it’s hard to find a really pissed off, broken-hearted woman to relate to. Once Alanis Morissette hooked up with a good man and started living happily ever after, we ladies on the edge of sanity have had no heroines of depression. I don’t know what man ripped out Adele’s heart, but I am grateful for her talent and skill in capturing the pain of walking in on your boyfriend rolling in the deep with your sister’s best friend. So to speak…

2. Blank Space / Taylor Swift

I am not a real fan of the perky blonde, but I have to give it to her for lyrics that set up a story that will inevitable go down in flames. It’s totally high school, but there are perennial high school movies and TV shows for a reason. (Hint: the high schoolers aren’t watching those shows. Just saying.) This song is the “before” to Adele’s “after.” The video is gorgeous too…even if she is a nutso, crazy bitch who beats up a beautiful, classic car for no good reason.

3. Misery / Maroon 5

Ok, I gotta admit, I love love love this song. Yeah, it’s a rough love full of obsession, madness and masochism, but it hurts so good, don’t you think? He’s dirty and he’s a dork, that Adam Levine, I like ‘im that way.

4. Slow Dancing In A Burning Room / John Mayer

Talk about depressing! Sheesh, I love this song. It’s such a train-wreck of a relationship it makes me feel so much better about myself. It’s better that I don’t have a relationship at all, or that the ones I do have never get so bad that we are clinging to poisonous vapors and delusions of broken down memories. Brilliant! John knows how to write a song that makes you glad your not his girlfriend.

5. Put the Gun Down / ZZ Ward

If you haven’t heard or seen this video, stop reading now and follow this link. ZZ Ward will blow your mind! And once you get over that you’ll realize that she a rough, raw yet polished and forceful lyricist and musician. I mean, after Adele it doesn’t get better that this! ZZ Ward live is amazing. You must catch her before she blows up.
